EDA ASCIOGLU SELCUK
Born in Karsiyaka, Izmir, Turkey, Eda Ascioglu Selcuk received her Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1998 from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Istanbul. She then received her Master's of Architecture degree in Minimum Cost Housing in 2002 from McGill University. She has taken management and marketing courses from the McGill University Department of Management.
Selcuk began her professional career in Canada in the office of Saucier + Perrotte architectes and later continued at MSDL architects where she developed a wide range of professional skills. After living for 6 years in Canada, she moved to the Istanbul firm 212 Architecture where she acted as a project architect.
In 2007, Selcuk formed Eda Ascioglu Studio (Emerging Architecture Studio, renamed in 2018 to Sinaps Architects). She had taught design studios at different universities as an adjunct professor between 2007-2017.
In 2017, she published a book with Prof. Avi Friedman, Professor of Architecture, Director, Affordable Homes Research Group McGill School of Architecture.
Specializing in 'flexibility' and 'adaptability', her work focuses on flexible home and flexible workspace. In 2020, she obtained a “U.S. Provisional Patent” for FLOWHOME© and FLOWWORK© methods. The patent recognizes her innovative housing and workspace design solutions, created to meet the changing needs of home and office users, taking into consideration affordability and sustainability.

SINAPS ARCHITECTS
EAS Architects was formed by Eda Ascioglu Selcuk in 2007 in Istanbul after 10 years of professional experience at various firms in different countries. In 2018, she renamed the office Sinaps Architects.
Sinaps; in Greek, is derived by combining the words "syn-" (together) and "haptein" (embrace). In the brain, synapses are the specialized junction points that allows neurons to transmit messages to other neurons or non-neuronal cells.
As Sinaps Architects, we believe in the power of information, information transfer (information sharing), and communication. We play the role of synapse by transferring information to/for the people we communicate with. Sinaps Architects strongly believes that the most important requirement of fine design is knowledge accumulated through experience; this facilitates the creative vision.
Each and every context demands a unique approach. In architecture, a key factor in the design process is the environment surrounding the building: topography, climate, etc. This motivates architectural practice to find unique solutions for each and every context, breaking away from standardization. Also important is the balance between aesthetics, functionality, and cost. Reaching this balance is achieved by using the right materials and paying proper attention to detail.
Following new technology and current developments in the construction sector, Sinaps uses both contemporary and indigenous materials in its projects. Sinaps believes that texture itself is a design element and harmony can be achieved through the use of alternative materials.
The company performs architectural design and interior design, and can consult as an on-site contractor, project management, or logistic concerns. Sinaps aspires to be a leading company in the field, dedicated to quality.
